Smögen is the summer paradise of Sweden. There is no better feeling than coming here and experiencing the sea, the cliffs, and the salty breeze. On sunny summer days, we like to pack a picnic bag and take the boat out for some swimming, snorkeling and crab fishing until the sun sets.

In the summertime, I often go sailing here, but one of the best memories I have from Hållö, right next to Sandön, is from a wedding I attended once. We took a boat over from the mainland, and it was a stunning day – the sun was shining, making the pink cliffs look like something from an art magazine. The actual wedding took place inside of this majestic lighthouse where we had a fantastic 180-degree sea view.

Allemansrätten – or the freedom to roam – is a principle protected by Swedish law that gives all people the right to be free in Swedish nature. In other words, Swedish nature isn’t just a piece of land with trees and lakes and cliffs – it’s a home with all the necessities and amenities that any great home should have. It’s a place where you can eat berries from the ground, sleep under the stars, swim in the lakes and roam freely.
